Most of the people that are buried in it were from the Ga side of the river. There is a road from the Warwoman side in Ga that goes to the site. The last time I went that way it took a long time on a forest service road. There is a ford on the river near the site where most of the people crossed. It is located where if you are going to the Snider Cemetery, where the road runs parallel to the river and some camp sites are on the left as you go in. You can see where the road crossed the river and this is where people actually crossed into Ga. It would be easier to show you. Three ways. One you get keys from law inforcememt in Ga and drive with 4 wheeler. Walk for about one hour. Wade the river and walk about 2oo yards. No signs or markers to direct one to the site. by: John Ridley CHURCH/CEMETERY HISTORY: ------------------------ When searching for residents of the nw part of SC I have found claims of families on either side of the river as residents of Pendleton District, SC. The area where the Snider and Holden Cemetery are was known as Indian Territory until the early 1800's. Both the Snider and Holden families married into the Nicholson clan. Ira and Jane Nicholson are buried at the Holden Cemetery. William Holden married a daughter of Ira and Jane and he is one the first Holden's buried in the Cemetery. Ira and Jane are the first that I could find that are marked. Out of necessity, the families located a site on a hillside to located a place for their relatives and anyone else in the community to be buried. by: John Ridley TOMBSTONE TRANSCRIPTION NOTES: ------------------------------ a. = age at death b. = date-of-birth d. = date-of-death h. = husband m. = married p. = parents w. = wife BINGHAM, E., 9-jul-1920 BYNUM, Adaline, b. 2-aug-1828, d. 21-mar-1914 BYNUM, Andrew J., b. 1842, d. 1916 BYNUM, Dollie M., b. 11-mar-1930, d. 27-may-1930, p. robert & callie bynum BYNUM, Essie Lee, b. 3-may-1936, d. 3-may-1936, p. robert & callie bynum BYNUM, J.R., b. 25-aug-1881, d. 25-dec-1885 BYNUM, James, b. dec-1838, d. 1864 BYNUM, M.T. Ira's death time isn't exactly correct. In Rabun Ordinary Ct. Records, 13 Jan 1840, son Evan is appointed Guardian of the orphans. So Ira d. earlier than posted. Might even be before Jan 7 as Letters of Admin. were applied for then. And Jane's is a big snafu. I really doubt she died before she was born. Jane was dec'd by Sept 1851 (Court of Equity)
